Twelve issues. Four Eisners. And the strangest-looking superhero comic DC has published in years.
Deniz Camp and Javier Rodríguez were given six issues to do something with Martian Manhunter — a character most readers think of as the fifth-most-interesting person in the Justice League. What they made instead was an abstract horror comic that DC extended to twelve, and that Camp and Rodríguez then chose to end on their own terms rather than let run.
Andy, Chad, and JA read the whole thing: what Rodríguez is doing with page layout that nobody else in mainstream comics is attempting, how Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou's lettering carries as much of the story as the art, whether the horror framing works for a character built on loneliness — and whether the ending sticks the landing.
At the 2026 Eisners the book took Best Limited Series, with Rodríguez winning Best Penciller/Inker and Best Cover Artist, and Otsmane-Elhaou winning Best Lettering.
